Buganda Kingdom has raised her voice over the ongoing teachers’ strike, saying the government should review salary structure for all public servants.

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga said this during the Buganda Lukiiko on Monday where he suggested that reviewing salary structure is the only solution that the government should take to overcome strikes by public servants.

He says that though the government decided to increase salaries of science teachers, it was unfair to leave art teachers without any stringent promise over their salary structure.

It’s now close to two weeks since teachers laid down their tools after the government increased the salary of all scientists including the science teachers leaving their arts counterparts without being attended to which they claim to be unfair and contradicts the bargaining agreement.

Katikiro Mayiga however emphasizes that once salaries of all public servants are reviewed, it will encourage them to work without fear and more students will excel in exams.

Sources indicate that Parliament has scheduled this Wednesday to discuss salary related issues for arts teachers and cabinet is expected to reconvene over the same matter this week.
