Buganda Kingdom has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Edward aimed at supporting the youths through the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards.

The chairman board of trustees of these awards William Blick has signed on behalf of Prince Edward and the Chief Executive Officer of Buganda Investment and Commercial Undertakings Limited (BICUL) Roland Ssebuwufu signed on behalf of Buganda Kingdom.

This happened during Prince Edward’s visit at Bulange Mengo at the Administrative place of Buganda Kingdom and the guest was welcomed by the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

Speaking to the press immediately after Prince Edward’s departure, Katikkiro Mayiga noted that he was touched by the fruits of various youths who have benefited from the Duke of the Edinburgh international awards during his visit to the British Embassy among others; coordinating the youths, helping them to acquire new skills and being resilient hence vowing to work together towards the prosperity of the youth.

He also noted that the future of the kingdom and the country at large will be determined by the way they nurture and train the young people since 70% of nearly 14m people within the kingdom of Buganda are below 30 years of age.

It should be noted that the Duke of Kent Prince Edward was the first to visit the kingdom representing her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth ll and his royal highness the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Edward is now  the second to visit the kingdom in nearly 62 years.
