One person has been confirmed dead and several others displaced following landslides that hit Busaano Sub County, Mbale District.

Landslides hit the district yesterday after heavy rains pounded the area for more than 5 hours.

According to residents, rains started at 7:00 pm on Sunday up to 1:00 am yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Michael Mukali.

The landslides have also affected 18 villages and more than 200 families in the parishes of Bufoto and Busaano parishes. The affected families are currently living at Buwangwa Primary school and a church.

Johnson Wandeka, the Busaano Sub County LCIII Chairperson says that he has advised people to relocate from the area.

Meanwhile Farmers in Bukibokolo Sub County in Bududa district are confused on how to survive following losses caused by a heavy down pour which destroyed their crops last night.

The heavy rains that lasted for over five hours destroyed mainly onions, bananas, cassava and beans in the three parishes of Bukari, Bulumino and Bwilimbi in Bukibokolo sub county in Bududa with many saying the losses incurred cannot make them survive the period of COVID-19 lockdown.

They are putting the loss of Crops to a value of over 100,000,000 Shillings.
