The Archbishop of Kampala His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has cautioned all those targeting to grab church land to know that they are committing a sin.

Archbishop Ssemogerere says many in Uganda today don’t respect people’s property, encroach, misuse and destroy what is not theirs which is an act of sin before God.

He said the pastoral council convened at Ulrika guest house in Kisubi since Wednesday this week to Saturday 5th November 2022, it has been resolved that Parish priests and catholic land committees right from the sub parish level and the entire Catholic Community must be on watch over those targeting to grab church land.

His grace Ssemogerere says a lot of Catholic Church land in the 72 Parishes currently in the archdiocese is being targeted by scrupulous people with intention to encroach on it, yet the church is a custodian of such church property for the benefit of all today and in the future.

Speaking at the sideline of the Three day pastoral council meeting that started Archbishop Ssemogerere also noted with concern the suffering many Ugandans are undergoing due to economic hardship saying people should regulate their expenditure but also utilize government development programs to transform their lives.

He advised the youth to stop abandoning their parents and older persons in the villages without any support to the extent of them being unable to utilize their land to improve on income.

Archbishop Ssemogerere also challenged parents never to abandon their role regarding the nurturing of the children saying the kind of laxity experienced in filure to guide, support and correct the young ones has exposed them to all kind of indiscipline including among others committing of suicide amongst children.

His Grace Ssemogerere says children suffer from isolation, over dependence on Television and mobile phones, drug abuse and domestic violence that are spoiling the children today. This calls for prayers and psycho-social support even to adults.

He announced that starting next year 2023 there will be elections for the new leaders of the lay faithful right from the basic Christian community to help in guiding the faithful.
