The Archbishop of Kampala His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has challenged the people of Mawokota to utilize the available opportunities to support themselves to increase individual income.

He mentioned that Mawokota County used to be on top with good leaders both civic and religious, with good forest cover, land, in agriculture producing coffee but all this is getting lost.

Archbishop Ssemogerere says leaders must wakeup and support their communities to get out of poverty, land grabbing, witchcraft among other daily challenges.

He reminded them of the Kabaka’s analogy ‘not to doze” but stand up and transform the area, people and the country at large.

This came after the speech of the Episcopal Vicar of Mitala Maria Vicariate Fr. Denis Kizito Ssebunya who underscored the desire to develop Mitalamaria and Mawokota area to suit the required development in the coming years.

In his address to the Archbishop of Kampala His Grace Paul Ssemogerere at the celebration of 50 years a priest and 25 years a Bishop of Archbishop Augustine Kasujja at Mitalamaria Parish, Fr. Ssebunya said the area is still faced with witchcraft, development of towns that are creating slam dwelling and redundant youths, domestic violence and hard economy are big challenges affecting the area.

He further said environmental degradation has not spared the area with vivid example of Katonga River which caved in palarising traffic flow along Kampala Masaka road since May 2023.

He said they have set up 5 pillars to help in the turn-around of Mitalamaria and Mawokota and they are; team work, emphasizing catechism, supporting and strengthening families, exploring opportunities in all development programs and encourage Catholics to engage in administrative roles starting from the church.

Meanwhile the area leaders who included MPs Yusuf Nsibambi, Betty Nambooze and Mpigi district Chairman Martine Ssejjemba pledged to wake up and work to transform their communities.
