Civil society organizations have called for the appointment of a substantive Inspector General of Government (IGG) as well as the chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission.

This has been revealed by the Executive Director of Transparency International Uganda, Peter Wandera saying that although Raphael Buku was appointed to act as the IGG, he has limited powers when it comes to decision making on some issues.

It should be noted that former IGG Irene Mulyagonja’s contract expired on July 5th 2020 and President Yoweri Museveni appointed her as one of the judges in court of appeal and up to now the directorate lacks the full IGG.

He notes that though  Dr.Amooti wa Irumba was appointed to  act as the chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights commission he can’t make independent decisions regarding the increasing acts of human rights violation in the country.

Dr.Amooti wa Irumba was appointed to act as the chairperson of the Uganda human rights commission replacing  meddi ssozi Kaggwa who passed on in November 2019.
