Manufacturers and Dealers of animal and poultry feeds have backed the government’s move to review the taxation on imported feeds.

This week, the Uganda Revenue Authority-URA announced new taxes including the Value Added Tax (VAT) of 28 percent and import duty of 10 percent, additional to the already existing withholding tax.

The Operations Director Murwana J-Peter Stores Limited, Aimable Mbarushimana while addressing journalists today in Kisenyi-Kampala said that this move will strengthen the Buy Uganda Build Uganda-BUBU initiative because for the long time, the feeds made in Uganda had been ignored by farmers.

Mbarushimana adds that the government should now come in and support local feed dealers to produce quality products which equalize the international market and widen the market hence creating more jobs and increasing the revenue collection.

He however believes that local animal and poultry feed manufacturers have capacity to produce enough but they have been facing challenges of imported feeds and lack of funds which is now likely to be settled.

Mbarushimana further calls upon international manufacturers to come and invest in the local feeds in Uganda to create a strong ecosystem.
