Government is hopeful that the construction project of the State-of-the-art heart surgery and treatment center will be done in the next three years.

In August this year, Members of the Parliamentary Health Committee approved a request by the government to acquire a 75 million USD, approximately Shs285b loan to establish the facility in Kampala.

The facility will be constructed on the 10 acre-piece of land at Naguru in Nakawa division from 2023 to 2025 once the loan is secured from the Arab Bank for Economic Development and OPEC Fund for International Development.

Addressing the journalists in commemoration of the World Heart Day today, the Commissioner for Child Reproductive Health in the Ministry of Health Dr. Jessica Nsungwa Sabiiti who represented the Health Minister said that the facility will end expensive referral services sought abroad by Ugandans.

However, the Uganda Heart Institute Deputy Executive Director Dr Peter Lwabi says that one in four Ugandans which is 25 percent have heart related diseases without knowing though the care services have been extended to 95 percent adults and 85 percent children.
