Firefighters have struggled to put out the fire that gutted a private building near Entebbe International Airport.

The fire, whose cause is being investigated, broke out on Wednesday afternoon at about 3pm at a warehouse belonging to DAS services, one of the private ground handling agencies operating at the airport.

The building also accommodates a warehouse in which mosquito nets worth billions of shillings that had been imported by the National Medical Stores (NMS) on behalf of the Ministry of Health among other items have been destroyed.

Vianney Luggya, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Spokesperson says the fire didn’t affect the airport and the flights.

Sheila Nduhukire, the NMS Spokesperson says the mosquito nets were comprehensively insured to minimize any unexpected loss and the Medical Stores has already activated its Business continuity plan to ensure uninterrupted supply of nets to Ugandans.

She also says that they are still assessing the extent of the damage caused by the fire and are working closely with the authorities to investigate the cause.
