President Yoweri Museveni has led the entire team that converged at state house Entebbe for the heroes day celebrations in a moment observe the demise of his long served soldier Major General Kasirye Gwanga

The Presidential Advisor on Buganda Affairs Major General (Rtd) Kasirye Gwanga breathed his last at Nakasero Hospital this morning where he was admitted a few weeks ago with a life threatening ailment.

Some of his biography;

Kasirye Gwanga 68, from Mubende Kasangombe attended Katakala Primary School, Kibuli Secondary School for his O-Level education and later joined the Uganda Army in 1972. After training he was posted to Arua as a map reader until 1977. In 1978 he was promoted to a position of an artillery officer he prided in and received further training in the same field from Russia.

He was once a political prisoner detained in Tanzania after Tanzanian People’s Defence Force attacked Uganda in 1978. The late President Godfrey Binaisa negotiated their return in 1980. He served in the Uganda Freedom Army and later joined NRA in 1980s and by the time of capturing Kampala in 1986 Kasirye Ggwanga commanded a 120mm artillery unit..

Between 1986 and 2005, he served in several roles including as the LC5 chairman for Mubende District and as the director of stores in the UPDF. On 31 January 2005, he was retired from the UPDF at the rank of brigadier but asked to be re-instated on contract basis until the time of his death this morning. He was a father, a farmer, a soldier and a political leader.
