Police have reported at least five people arrested, 28 motor vehicles and 222 motorcycles impounded in the lockdown and curfew operations conducted in the two districts of Mubende and Kassanda.

This follows the lockdown imposed on the two districts by President Yoweri Museveni over the weekend aimed at containing the spread of the Ebola epidemic involving the restriction of movements, closure of worship places and seasonal markets among others.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson says that many people had not considered the presidential directive serious and some bodaboda riders in Kassanda district especially in Bukuya had attempted to stage a protest which was contained by security officers.

Enanga says that in their operation of enforcing the presidential directive, 77 motorcycles and three Vehicles were impounded in Mubende while 145 motorcycles and 28 motor vehicles were from Kassanda.

He adds seven seasonal markets were also closed in the entire two districts during the lockdown operation and the heavy deployment has been intensified by both the police and the army.
