Kampala Capital City Authority – KCCA has released a report indicating at least 360 children evicted from the streets of Kampala for rehabilitation with most of them being molested.

 

KCCA says these are children who some ran from their homes due to domestic violence, others were defiled and another were involved in prostitution.

 

These street children were collected during the two years’ lockdown and some girls including those living with disabilities were found impregnated according to the report.

 

Peter Lwanga Mayanja, the KCCA Youth and Children Affairs’ Coordinator presented this report in Kampala the function organized by Anti Hill Foundation and Agha Khan Foundation aimed at sensitizing local leaders in Kampala on ways of fighting violence against children in Kampala Metropolitan.

 

At the same time, Lwanga said that KCCA has finalized with policies that protect children including those on streets from being molested or violated.

 

Elizabeth Kalema, the Executive Director for Anti –Hill Foundation, an organization that has led a campaign of controlling early pregnancies in children, says that this project is estimated cost them more than 50,000 Euros in ensuring that victims get justice in courts of law and also receive medical treatment.
