Uganda National Examinations Board has released the 2022 Uganda Certificate of Education results indicating a better performance at overall level with males outnumbering their female counterparts especially in Science subjects.

A total of 345,695 candidates (173,761 males and 171,934 females) appeared for the examination compared to 330,592 candidates who appeared for the examination in 2020. This is an increase of 15,103 (4.6%) candidates and at least 3,764 candidates missed on the examinations.

According to the results released today at State House Nakasero, there has been a one percent point drop in failure rates from 18,415 in 2020 to 15,756 in 2022, presenting 5.6 percent and 4.6 percent respectively.

 

At the overall level 46,667 candidates which is 13.5% passed in first grade, 76,745 22.2% in second grade, 88,690 which is 25.7% in third grade, 117,837 candidates representing 34.0% got Fourth grade and 15,756 which is 4.6% failed.

 

While released the results the UNEB Executive secretary Daniel Odongo revealed, there has been an improvement in performance in the large entry subjects except in Christian Religious Education, Biology and Commerce.

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English has improved, although the overall pass levels remains low.

UNEB registered 51 Inmates at Luzira Prisons for the UCE Examinations and all sat. Eight passed in Division 2, 16 got Division 3; 26 passed in Division 4 and One failed.

Candidates with special needs who sat for the examinations 46 were blind and 2 got first grade, 13 second grade and 11 third grade while 4 failed. For the deaf 120 candidates appeared for the examinations 5 passed in division one, 10 in division two and the same number in division three while 21 failed.

On the side of the languages Chinese was examined for the first time, a total of 134 candidates sat and 124 (92.5%) of them passed. The language is in addition to other major languages; French, German, Arabic, Latin and Kiswahiri.

A total of 1,035 results have been withheld due to examination malpractice that was largely in science practicals and Mathematics where collusion among candidates, impersonation and script substitution were detected as the common cases.

The UNEB Chairperson Prof. Mary Okwakol, said that although there has been sustained government effort to improve science performance, these interventions are yet to produce the desired outcomes.
