At least 13 people suspected to be part of the racket that has been snatching phones and bags from motorists during traffic jam at Clock Tower area in Kampala, are now in police custody.

 

The suspects have been arrested in an operation conducted today by the territorial police at Katwe in a bid to crack down on criminality along Clock Tower.

 

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan says that among the suspects is Ibrah Jemba, a gang leaders who is known for using his rings on the knuckles to knock out his victims and cutting their faces before robbing them.

 

He says that the suspects are currently detained at Katwe Police Station on allegations of being in possession of suspected narcotic substances and aggravated robbery and are expected to be processed and arraigned in courts of law.

 

Last week, police arrested about 78 suspects allegedly connected to the racket that was terrorizing motorists and pedestrians along the Northern bypass in Kampala.
