Nabweru Chief Magistrates Court presided over by the Chief  Magistrate Sarah Namusobya has committed the eleven National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters who are battling charges of unlawful manufacture of firearms to the High court of International Crimes Division for trial.

The group was on 19th May 2023 charged before the Nabweru magistrates’ court over unlawful manufacture of ammunition and was subsequently sent on remand until today.

However, on their appearance today, prosecution through senior state attorney Richard Birivumbuka informed court that the investigations on the matter are complete; the court can commit the suspects for trial since this court has no powers to handle cases of this nature.

Birivumbuka has also presented some of the evidence in Court which will be used to pin the suspects during their trial at the ICD court.

The evidence to be used by police includes Charges sheets, forensic reports, exhibit reports, search certificates, mobile phones.

Prosecution alleges that Umar Magala, Abdul Katumba, Hamidu Ssekidde and others on the 7th May 2023 at Nabweru NORTH ZONE, for the purposes of influencing the government or intimidating the public for political, religious, economic or social reasons, carried out acts of terrorism to wit purchase of materials, manufacture and possession of improvised explosive devices.
