The Uganda National Examinations Board -UNEB has confirmed more than 1.28 million candidates registered to sit for this year’s final papers across the country.

 

The exams commence on Friday 14th October 2022, with briefing of Senior Four candidates in preparation for their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) papers.

 

According to the UCE time table, candidates will sit their first paper on October 17 starting with Mathematics Paper 1 in the morning and Mathematics Paper 2 in the evening.

 

Of the 1.2million learners that are expected to sit, a total of 751,336 (56 per cent) are funded by the government while 564,836 (44 per cent) are privately sponsored.

 

A total of 349,455 registered candidates are expected to sit for the 2022 UCE examinations from 3703 examination centers compared to 333,872 candidates in 2020, indicating an increment of 15,583.

 

According to UNEB, 175,923 (50.3%) candidates are males, while 173,522 (49.7%) are females.

 

A total of 114,200 (32.7%) of the candidates are funded under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) programme, while 235,245 (77.3%) candidates are non-USE.

 

51 candidates who are inmates in Luzira Upper Prison will write their examination from the prison while the 519 candidates who are special needs will access arrangements made for them according to their needs.

 

On the safety of the examinations UNEB has deployed a total of 1595 security officers, 1611 scouts and 22,214 supervisors and invigilators  to protect exams.

 

The UNEB Executive Secretary Daniel Odongo has urged all head teachers and heads of examination centers to ensure that the Standard Operating Procedures -SOPs are provided at the examination centers by the Ministry of Health to control the spread of COVID-19 and Ebola during examinations.
