The Vice President Jessica Alupo has scoffed at the discipline claimed to be instilled at Makerere University that wasn’t exercised during the recently banned guild election campaigns.

Alupo says that Makerere University put the country to shame when a student from the Uganda Christian University lost his life.

Makerere University Council banned physical guild elections at the institution following the death of Betungura Bewatte, a second-year law student at UCU Kampala Campus in Mengo in a scuffle during the last-minute campaigns.

Alupo, while speaking at the National Information Communication and Technology –ICT Job Fair inauguration, says that students should resort to dialogue and peace as the basic mechanism of resolving any issue affecting them instead of using violence.

Before Alupo’s statement, the Makerere University Vice President Prof Barnabas Nawangwe had hailed the Ivory Tower for being the most disciplined high institution of learning and also called on the students to maintain good discipline in order to achieve their goals.
