The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has released guidelines for the deactivation of unverified, invalidated and unregistered SIM cards indicating that all SIM cards with a ‘NOT FOUND’ comment against their submission from NIRA, shall be switched off within 72 hours following the end of the deadline for sim card registration today 30th.

The deactivated numbers will not receive or allow outgoing calls, messages and data services excepts mobile money withdrawals will be enabled, but deposits and other payments will be disabled.

Unused mobile money balances will be retained in accordance with the mobile money regulations and all affected Sim Card will be reactivated upon presentation of a National ID.

Meanwhile, Over 5 million pupils have been registered in the ongoing mass registration exercise of students in all schools across the country.

On 29th May this year, the National Identification Authority (NIRA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports lunched a registration exercise of all school going children in primary and secondary Schools all over the country and according to NIRA Corporate affairs officer Gilbert Kadilo the exercise has ran smoothly with few exceptional challenges like a number of schools were not on the ministry of education register, but the registration will continue until all children are captured.
