Government is to carry out a special audit of all public officers in the ministries, departments and agencies who remained unverified or partially verified during the special audit of the payroll by the office of the auditor general.

 

The exercise will kick off on 11th march – 17th May 2024 at the National Archives and records centre in Kampala.

 

In the recent audit carried out by the Auditor General from July – December 2023 on at least 338,966 public officers in ministries, departments and agencies who are enrolled on the payroll.

 

A total of 24,757 public officers were partially verified and recommended for the temporary retention on payroll and 1,886 public officers were not verified but accounted for as being officially absent.

 

It’s against these findings that the Minister of State for Public Service Grace Mary Mugasa warned that any public officer who will remain unverified after 17th may 2024 will be permanently deleted from the payroll.

 

Meanwhile, over 1,900 ghost public officers will be deleted from the payroll this month.
