UMU to install new Vice Chancellor Prof. Kyamanywa

Uganda Martyrs University UMU, the first catholic founded University in the country has set to install Professor Patrick Edrin Kyamanywa as the new Vice Chancellor.

The former Kampala International University –KIU will be taking over the position from Rev. Fr. Dr. Christopher B Mukidii, who has been serving as the Acting Vice Chancellor since the expiration of Prof. John Chrysostom Maviiri’s contract in May 2021.

Prof. Kyamanywa is an experienced Professor of Surgery with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry, skilled in medical education, leading innovation and change especially in higher education institutions, Partner Relationship Management, Global Health, Healthcare and GI endoscopy.

Prior to serving as the KIU Vice Chancellor, Kyamanywa served as the Executive Director for the University Teaching Hospital and Dean School of Medicine and Dentistry at the same and the Acting Principal in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Rwanda.

Kyamanywa has strong educational and business development professional with a PgCert, Academic Practice focused on Higher Education and completing and MBA from York St. John University United Kingdom.

Since the inception of Uganda Martyrs University in 1993, Prof. Kyamanywa will be the 4^th Vice Chancellor after Prof. Michael Lejeune from 1993 -2006, Prof. Charles Olweny from 2006 – 2014 and Rev. Prof. John Chrysostom Maviiri from 2015 – 2021.

Margaret Nangooba, the UMU Public Relations Officer says that the installation ceremony will be presided over by the University Chancellor His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa who is also the Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference –UEC and serving as the Bishop of Kiyinda – Mityana Diocese.

She adds that the ceremony will start with a Eucharistic celebration at 10am followed by the installation and handing over office event.

Meanwhile, Dr Mukidi will also officially takeover his merged new Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Finance and Administration office.
