Joy has filled a section of Ugandans who have gathered at the Kololo ceremonial grounds to witness the launch of Uganda’s satellite dubbed; “Pearl of Africa Sat 1” being launched into space today.

This satellite had to be launched in September but it was postponed to October but failed due to bad weather and pushed to November 6th and again pushed to Monday due to a fire alarm which broke out at the last minute when the rocket transporting it was setting to take off.

As it set off to space, jubilation started immediately from the public, notably from the two space engineers Bonny Omara and Edgar Mujuni together with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza.

Omara says that it’s a great experience for them to have such an achievement that they have worked on since last year together with his colleague.

He also revealed that the satellite will be deployed in early December since it will spend 15 hours in space moving to the International Space Station.

The satellite launched has a lifespan of 3-5 years.

Minister Musenero revealed that once this satellite is deployed it will benefit various Ministries such Agriculture, Minerals and Energy, Disaster Preparedness, Security and Defense.
