The Uganda People’s Defense Forces- UPDF is hunting for a soldier attached to Mountain Division in Fort Portal who shot dead two of his colleagues and injured another.
According to Col Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Defense Spokesperson, Corporal Avugo Lomuro of the Mountain Division Signal Department attached to the Air force Evacuation Component shot and killed two colleagues and injured another one on Thursday night.
Akiiki says that the names of the victims are still being withheld as per UPDF policy of first reporting to the family.
He adds that after committing the crime, Avugo is on the run and the hunt for him is on.
Akiiki noted that the UPDF condemns the act of the soldier in whatever circumstances as the institution has a clear and well defined mechanism of handling internal grievances and the killer soldier should have followed them.
The barracks has for long been regarded as a vital military installation and a cornerstone of the UPDF’s operations in the region as it is currently in joint operation of hunting for the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the Eastern DR Congo.
