Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has clarified that they haven’t received a formal communication from the European Union- EU parliament in regards to the resolution for Uganda to delay the construction of the oil pipeline project around Lake Albert.

The resolution, which was quashed by President Museveni, cited human rights concerns centered on fair compensation for affected communities as well as environmental fears.

The State Minister for Minerals Peter Lokeris says the government hasn’t received the formal communication from the EU parliament on their resolutions but they are ready to give a comprehensive and appropriate response once received.

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda –PAU Director Petroleum Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Storage, Dozith Abeinomugisha refutes allegations that EU resolution is based on Uganda’s support to Russia in the Russia- Ukrainian war.

He however hints that once EU stops supporting Uganda’s oil projects, they will welcome any willing funders including Russia.
