Uganda has completed a study in which researchers were assessing the efficacy of an herbal drug code-named UBV – 01N.

Dr Monica Musenero, the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation who was hesitant to divulge results of the study which was launched glamorously by President Yoweri Museveni in January says they tried what they refer to as a cure in animals and later tested it in humans and that the release of these results only awaits a presidential launch.

The drug which was tested on more than 100 patients at Mulago National Referral Hospital was being promoted as having antiviral, anti-inflammatory and immunological properties and that it will help in the cure of many other infections apart from COVID-19.

Musenero, who is currently on the spot over allegations of misuse of funds meant for the development of COVID-19 related solutions, said before the studies, the properties in this cure have worked for people in the communities of Tooro and Teso where some of the raw materials used were picked from.

To date, Uganda has recorded a cumulative 126,714 infections where 3,231 have died.
