As the country approaches the festive season, the Traffic Police have set to embark on an operation against vehicles in a dangerous mechanical condition on the roads.

 

This comes after registering a total of 349 road crashes that involved 379 victims of which 64 died and 315 sustained injuries last week from 26th of November to 2nd of December 2023.

 

According to the report, among the crashes, 31 of them were for motorcycles that affected 12 passengers, 19 riders and 21 boda boda pedestrians.

 

Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson says that their operations on the roads will be enhanced to ensure safety during the festive season.

 

In the same vein, Police have indicated that during the operation last week a total of 523 EPS ticket defaulters, 121 drivers without driving licenses, 181 drivers with expired licenses and 221 drivers out of class were arrested.

 

Meanwhile, a total of 2354 motorcycles were impounded last week and among them, 1247 were without licenses and 706 had no helmets while 177 had no reflector jackets and 142 were in other offenses.
