The first lady Janet Kataha Museveni has warned parents and guardians never to abandon their roles in the battle against child sexual abuse.

The first lady says parents cannot swap their roles with the government and NGOs in as far as protecting young girls against sexual abuse and exploitation are concerned.

She was speaking in a special meeting at parliament where young girls who have been victims of defilement and early marriages presented a petition to the speaker Rebecca Kadaga, noting that child neglect is an existent challenged citing among others sending hungry children to school which must stop.

She warned guardians against sexual abuse and defilement reminding that once a teacher is convicted of such offences he will automatically lose his teaching license.

The speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga appealed to the first lady for more action against such perpetrators.

The minister of internal affairs Obiga Kania condemned the action of some police officers who option for mediation in defilement cases because of monetary gain giving a stun warning against such a habit.
