The Bishop of Lira diocese his lordship Sanctus Lino Wanok is worried over the increased corruption despite the high numbers of graduates who would cause a change and save the country out of this vice.

Officiating at the fifth graduation ceremony of the Religious Sisters at their Association of Religious in Uganda ARU headquarters in Nsambya who graduated in development and leadership skills, Bishop Wanok said graduates have to solve problems that deny the common person rights and freedom to live peacefully.

He said corruption scandals in government agencies and even private entities worry the country however the Catholic Church is committed through its institutions to nurture its learners to save Uganda from Corruption.

A total of 123 religious sisters completed their courses at the sisters leadership development initiative (SLDI) 5th graduation ceremony where 49 graduated in finance management and 74 graduated in administration and were coffered with certificates and diplomas in the three year course.

In her speech theĀ African Sisters Education Collaborative ASEC program country director Sr. Mary Germina Keneema encouraged the graduates to put in use all the skills acquired to improve their institutes and ministries hence becoming impactful to the community.

SLDI is one of the programs of African Sisters Education Collaboration run in collaboration with the Association of Religious in Uganda and Conrad Hilton Foundation aimed at skilling religious sisters especially in Financial and Administration. They also support Higher Education for Sisters in Africa where sisters are trained in education and nursing to help them manage their roles effectively.

Since the program started in 2007, a total of over 500 Religious Sisters have been trained and each intake ensures that a triple number of Religious sisters is trained, where each trainee mentors three sisters from her congregation as a partial requirement for the award of diplomas especially in Finance and Admonition.

Many of sisters who have benefited from the ASEC program have excelled become head teachers and nursing sisters managing health centres, those in finance have been able to write project proposals that are already funded, all aimed at serving the people of God better.
