In support of the teachers’ process of upgrading their teaching qualifications, the government is set to develop the teaching institutions in the country to the level of degree awarding institutions.

The move is to enforce the National Teacher’s Policy which was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2019 to standardize teachers’ development, qualifications and practice across all levels of education.

The remarks were made by the State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala on Tuesday ahead of the celebrations for the World Teachers’ Day 2022 on November 30, at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

The celebrations will be under the theme: “Transformation Begins with Teachers” and President Museveni is to grace the function.

Muyingo says the government is willing to provide financial support to teachers to attain higher academic qualifications at a degree level with a total of 8,000 teachers expected to benefit from the first phase at Kyambogo University.

He reiterated the government’s efforts to solve the challenges faced by the teachers since their role in the education sector is a foundation for the country’s development.
