The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has warned students of Amus College Bukedea to be conscious of not adopting homosexuality activities now reportedly promoted in schools and students camps.

 

Amus College (girls) from Bukedea district together with Royal Giant High School (Boys) will represent Uganda in the CECAFA Zone qualifiers for the 1st edition of the Africa Schools football championship that will take place in the humid coastal city of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania.

 

Tayebwa, who had hosted the Amus College girls’ football team in the Speaker Anita Among’s office at Parliament before they traveled to Tanzania for the African Schools football championship, noted that the students should stick to the Bible, be disciplined and make good friends in order to excel in the future.

 

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has donated 5000 dollars equivalent to 17.5million shillings to the team and also promised another 10,000 dollars equivalent to 35 million shillings as a bonus once they win the tournament in addition to building a football pitch at the school.

 

Sixteen schools from eight countries have already confirmed for this CECAFA Zone qualifying tournament which will take place from 17th to 20th February 2023.

 

The winners in the boys’ and girls’ category are expected to win USD 100,000, while the runners-up will take USD 75,000 and bronze medalists USD 50, 000.

The victors will represent CECAFA region at the maiden African Schools Football Championship is slated to take place April 7-9, 2023.
