Taxi operators under their Umbrella body “Uganda Transport Development Agency” (UTRADA) have resolved to increase transport fares by 500shillings for town service routes.

According to UTRADA, medium routes between 20 to 40 miles will be increased by 1,000 shillings, long routes from 70 to 90 miles will pay additional 2,000 shillings, beyond 90 miles to boarders will pay more 3,000 Uganda shillings up from the current charges.

This comes as a result of the tax of 100/= government levied on each liter of fuel in this financial year 2018/19.

UTRADA Chairperson Musitapha Mayambala, says fuel prices have extremely increased leaving them in deficits since the new taxes became operational on 1st this month.

The action follows the failure by the State Minister for Transport Aggrey Bagiire’s to address their issues presented in a letter dated July 05th, to address 3 main issues, organizing UTRADA elections, release the roadmap to pay the newly proposed tax of Ush 500,000 and Ush 800,000 annually, and reducing on prices of the fuel.
