President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan has assured the Associations Member Episcopal Conference of Eastern Africa (AMECEA) Bishops that her government will provide support efforts of the Catholic Church in East Africa in the fight against environmental degradation.

President Suluhu Hassan spoke this at the ongoing AMECEA assembly led by the Bishop Chairman Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde in the capital of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Suluhu says that the Tanzanian government recognizes the importance of AMECEA meeting on the environment in the country since the bishops have shown their impact to the society, promising that her government will provide support in overcoming the ecological crisis.

The President further added that, environmental degradation is a serious issue which has to be worked upon for it affects every human being and it is non-political.

According to the president of Tanzania, some strange diseases have emerged in the country in the recent past connected to poor care for creation, adding that if the bishops came out with such a theme then they deserve appreciation and support to uphold values that preserve nature.

She further insisted that everyone has to combine efforts on environmental protection to protect our planet earth which is the home for everyone.

The 20th AMECEA plenary assembly is held under the theme, “Environmental impact on integral human development.”
