The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has vowed not to preside over Parliament in the future if the Ministry of Finance fails to provide funds for both Medical Interns and Senior House Officers.

This was after a group of joint medical professionals led by Dr. Ekwaro Obuku, the former Uganda Medical Association President petitioned the Speaker on the failure by the Government to deploy and pay allowances for medical interns.

Dr. Obuku also raised concern on the policy mooted by the Ministry of Health to make medical interns pay for their training which is contrary to the law.

Among emphasized that Parliament has already given conditions to both the Finance Ministry and their Health counterparts to pay and deploy all medical interns and failure to do so Parliament will not sit again until it’s implemented.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has also allayed fears of the medics on the pay of the incoming lot of medical interns in the coming financial year as raised by Dr. Obuku saying that Government will consider a supplementary budget to cater for that when the time comes.

Early this month, a group of pre-medical interns stormed the Ministry of Health offices at Lourdel Road in Kampala, demanding answers on their delayed deployment.
