The top organ of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) dubbed the Central Executive Committee (CEC) has declared Friday July 16 this week as the date for  East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) by elections at Kololo Independence Ground in Kampala.

This comes after CEC sat at State House Entebbe yesterday and trimmed 20 people from the list of 26 candidates that had expressed interest in the position which went vacant in April this year after the death of Hon. Matthias Kasamba who was also the NRM Director of Mobilization and Training, the position that was given to the former Wakiso district Woman Member of Parliament Rosemary Sseninde last night.

The CEC meeting chaired by President Yoweri Museveni resolved to remain with only six candidates from the Central Region who including, the former State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, former State Minister for Primary Health James Kakooza, former Kalungu East MP Mawuye Lule, former Gomba district Women MP Nakato Kyabanji, Kenneth Nsubuga Ssebayunga from Mukono district and the former late Kasamba Political Assistant Abas  Mutumba.

Now addressing the media at the party headquarters along Kyadondo road in Kampala, the NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong says that the members of the Parliamentary caucus will be the eligible voters and will also elect other vacant positions like that of their Vice Chairperson, Publicity Secretary and Treasurer.

However, he assures the 20 aspirants who were told to step aside that their nomination fee of two million shillings each will be refunded as per the directive from President Museveni.
