At least 33 escapees have been rearrested and taken back to prisons, the Uganda Prison Services has disclosed.

 

The Prison Spokesperson Frank Baine, told the media that 12 of the escapees have been found dead.

 

A total of 219 prisoners we reportedly escaped from Moroto prison in Karamoja region last month.

 

The Army’s Deputy Spokesperson Lt.Col Deo Akiiki, vows that under the joint operation, all the escapees still on the run will be rearrested after apprehending one of the escapees only identified as Samuel Abra at Katenga Sub County in Moroto district while in a hide.

 

Meanwhile, Baine explains that 826 of the cumulative number of prisoners that have been infected with COVID-19, 587 of them have recovered.

 

He again says the short list of the new recruitment is soon to be out with those qualified being phone called for interviews, yet the prison cadets recruitment exercise is also commenced last week.

 

On the information circulating on the social media about the Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) having received a request for peace talks from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel leader Joseph Kony Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki described that as a hooks adding that whether Kony wants a peace talks or submitted his petition before government over the matter, it isn’t the right time for the army to enter into such negotiations.

 

Akiiki further opposed allegations that indicated that the UPDF camped at Ituri boarders of Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo with the aim of fighting DRC but they are only there to protect Ugandans leaving at that border against attacks from the militia groups within the DR Congo.
