The bodies of the 11 children who died in a fire that gutted their dormitory at Salama School for the Blind in Mukono district have been handed over to their parents during a funeral service held on Wednesday at the school attended by parents and local leaders.

It followed DNA tests done on parents and children to identify the charred remains.

The dormitory blaze started around 11pm on Tuesday October 25th 2022.

At least 27 children were sleeping inside the building at the Salama School for the Blind.

The Head teacher of Salama School of Blind, Francis Kinubi disclosed shortly after the tragic incident that the school received warnings from the eight officers from the Birmingham Palace Royal guard who visited the school twice to assess the security measures over possible terror attacks ahead of the then expected visit of Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne together with her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence to the school last Friday 28th October 2022, a warning that was taken lightly.
