President Yoweri Museveni has hailed the UPDF for securing this country promising to spend sleepless nights to work for its professional performance.

Addressing the a parade of UPDF service men and a gathering of high profile, army officers, dignitaries and members of the community at the 39th Tarehe Sita celebrations in Butalangu Grounds, Kiwoko in Nakaseke District Museveni said the army has advanced from the bushes to pacifying other areas on the continent as if that is not enough they have seriously involved in the economic development of the country by overseeing government programs like Operation Wealth Creation.

Museveni who is also the commander in chief said the peace the army has maintained in Uganda must be jealously protected.

He cautioned the UPDF to guard against being contaminated with unscrupulous officers.

Surprising to most of the attendees was the presence of the former Premier and a 2016 Presidential Aspirant John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and on his arrival, Mbabazi moved about greeting delegates and ministers and whoever he approached stood up and greeted him, while others hugged him, like a long lost comrade while army officers saluted him.

Among those included; The Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi, the Deputy IGP Muzeeyi Sabiti and prison’s chief Johnson Byabashaija, the head of Wealth Creation chief Caleb Akwandanaho alias Salim Saleh as well as the Presidency Minister Esther Mbayo Mbulakubuza.

President Museveni has awarded medals to some army officers for their distinguished service. The celebrations have run under the theme: Consolidating the UPDF strategic partnership with the people to guard gains of the liberation.
