Pope Francis has appealed for dialogue in Sudan as the country’s military battles a paramilitary group for control of the chaos-stricken nation.

Pope says he is following events taking place in Khartoum and elsewhere in the Horn of Africa nation “with concern”.

The Pope‘s appeal rings out as fighting reportedly continues in the Sudanese capital that has left dozens of civilians killed in the clashes, many more injured.

Pictures from Sudan show a country in chaos. A committee of doctors says at least 200 civilians have been killed in cities and regions across the country since Sunday.

The World Health Organization’s Sudan representative, Dr Nima Saeed Abid based in the capital, Khartoum, says Security dangers amid ongoing fighting mean Sudan’s already frail healthcare system is failing to care for the many hundreds of people in need of life-saving treatment.

It is also reported that dozens of military personnel had been killed, as well as three employees of the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP).

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has also spoken to the commanders of Sudan’s army and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Force to call for an end to the bloodshed.
