An officer attached to Makokoto Police Post in Kassanda District has shot himself dead after attempting to murder a colleague.
The deceased has been identified as Police Constable Alex Kitiyo (47) a resident of Makokoto Trading Center in Kassanda.
The Wamala Region Police Spokesperson Rachael Kawala says that on Wednesday morning at approximately 5am, Kitiyo woke up and allegedly fired several shots into the room of his Superior Officer, Inspector of Police John Kakooza, without uttering any words.
She says after the incident, Kitiyo returned to his own room, sat on his bed, and subsequently took his own life.
Kawala noted that the task team has visited and thoroughly documented the scene of the crime and they are currently in the process of obtaining relevant statements to aid in the ongoing investigation.
