The Uganda Police Force have directed the territorial police commanders in 11 districts to liaise with the leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in ensuring the party’s political nationwide tour and opening of branch offices are conducted in peace.

This comes after last week, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, the NUP party president announced a nationwide tour starting this week to open his party offices and mobilize support.

Speaking to the media in Kampala last week, Kyagulanyi said unlike Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the president’s son who is barred by law from campaigning because he is still a serving military officer; the law allows politicians to reach out to the people.

Addressing the media on Monday at Naguru, Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson noted that all the Regional Police Commanders (RPC) and District Police Commanders (DPCs) in Rwizi Region, Busoga East, Bukedea South, North Kyoga and West Nile Arua among others have been told to ensure they harmonize with NUP leadership to plan for those activities in those areas.

He says that NUP is expected to avoid engaging in violent activities which have left many people lost properties and others injured but instead provide a clear plan for their rallies.

Enanga have also reminded the NUP leaders to ensure they provide clearance with owners or managers of the venues they wish to hold rallies before they meet with the police.
