The parliamentary Committee on Government Assurance has summoned the Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija after snubbing the previous committee probe.

Kasaija and the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development Ruth Nankabirwa were scheduled to appear alongside the Energy Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Irene Batebe on July 19, 2022 to answer questions on the rising costs of fuel and strategies the Government is taking to mitigate this crisis, but the two Ministers failed to show up at the last minute.

Now, the committee chaired by Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu, the Kalungu West MP has rescheduled the probe for Tuesday next week with a warning against snubbing the probe.

The furious Ssewungu noted that the ministers have been giving unrealistic excuses by hiding under President Museveni’s cabinet summons at the State house.

Ssewungu tasked the technocrats to ensure that their ministers show up and with the relevant information on the fuel crisis.

Ssewungu ruled at the end of the meeting said that once Kasaija and Nankabirwa do not appear next Tuesday, the committee will invoke powers of issuing arrest warrants against the two Ministers.
