Parliament has paid tribute to the fallen Speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah described him as a dedicated speaker who served his country and parliament diligently.

Members of the 11th Parliament including the former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker Anita Among, her Deputy Thomas Tayebwa, the Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga and Members of Parliament grouped in their regions have laid wreaths on the casket of late Oulanyah.

The Vice President, His Excellence Jessica Alupo later moved the motion to honour the former Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah seconded by the Rt. Hon Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and overwhelmingly supported by the MPs in a special session chaired by the new speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among.

In her speech, Alupo has said that the leadership of the late Jacob Oulanyah has greatly contributed to the strengthening of the rule of law, Parliamentary practice in Uganda and the entire African continent.

Alupo says the late Oulanyah was a father and mentor who sponsored over 200 students at in primary, secondary and universities and also contributed to the construction of the Cancer Institute in Omoro District, which they want the Ministry of Health to ensure its completion in honor of the fallen former Speaker of Parliament.

The Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga eulogized the late Oulanyah as the “encyclopaedia of parliamentary procedure” who died at a time when many Parliamentarians needed his guidance to master the ways of parliament.

Before that, the body of Oulanyah was escorted by Bwola group dancers from Acholi, the Bikers and the Uganda police band through Parliamentary Avenue into Parliament where Members of the public lined to pay their last respects.
