Hoima City Woman MP Asinansi Nyakato has cried before the parliamentary Presidential committee while expressing the torture and humiliation she went through in March this year while in the hands of police.

Nyakato and other NUP Opposition women MPs led by Mityana District woman MP Joyce Bagala had appeared before the committee chaired by Jessica Ababiku to speak to their petition earlier tabled before the committee expressing how police brutally arrested and tortured them.

In March this year NUP women MPs where arrested outside parliament as they tried to deliver their petition to the ministry of Internal Affairs headquarters in protest of security agencies blocking them from celebrating international women’s day in their respective districts by beating up people, tear gassing them and also shooting live bullets on commands of regional RDCs and their deputes.

Nyakato narrated to the committee that women police officers manhandled her, tear gassed them in a police van, squeezed and caused bruises on her breasts and since then whenever she sees a police officer, she gets traumatized.

Now the Mps demand that all implicated police officers and RDCs/deputy RDCs be prosecuted, the minister for presidency be summoned to the same committee, and also table a comprehensive report to parliament on the actions taken against such officers.
