The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has postponed Mawogola West primary elections in Sembabule district over electoral violence.

The battle for Mawogola West Member of Parliament slot on the NRM party ticket is between the current Sembabule district MP Anifah Kawooya and the incumbent Mawogola County MP Joseph Sekabiito.

Yesterday, Kawooya sustained wounds after being beaten during her search for votes in Nyange village in Lwebitakuli which also caused to the withdrawal of the Sembabule District Police Commander (DPC) Denis Musinguzi.

Addressing the media this afternoon at the commission’s headquarters along Kyadondo Road in Kampala, the NRM E.C Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi said that the elections in Mawogola will be fixed after investigations basing on Kawooya’s complaint.

Odoi further warns to disqualify candidates from Mityana Municipality, Sheema, Tororo, Kazo district and Sembabule if they continue to misbehave.

Meanwhile, Odoi confirms 31 Constituency MPs and 11 district chairpersons for having gone through unopposed and ready for representing the party in the 2021 general elections. Some of the MPs that have been declared unopposed include Mukono North MP Ronald Kibuule, Kalungu East MP Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, Kyotera MP Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for Lira District Woman MP, Frederick Ruhindi for Nakawa East, Mawokota North MP Amelia Kyambadde among others.

The National Resistance Movement ((NRM) party primaries will take place on Friday September 4, 2020 countrywide and security has been beefed up in all parts of the country ahead of the party elections.

The party Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni had directed their party’s village executive committees to ensure that all members participate in the upcoming primary elections contrary to the NRM Electoral Commission’s guidelines set for the September 4th party parliamentary elections that restricted those missing in the registers from voting except in the six villages that have no voters registers.

In a statement released September 3, 2020, President Museveni quoted the NRM constitutions and guided that members whose names are missing in the registers should immediately be permitted to vote once they are verified and are above the age of 18.

However, he warned of using the voters’ registers as the source of conflicts in the party primaries saying that such issues should be handled prior to the polling date and also ensures that the registers are forwarded to the Secretary General after the elections.
