The leadership of the National Organization of Trade Unions-NOTU has called for the resignation of the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi in two weeks due to her dishonest interference in matters concerning the management of the National Social Security Fund-NSSF.

These allege that the Minister asked the NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba for 6 billion shillings to ensure compliance by members although workers say she is going to use this money for her own goals.

While addressing journalists at Mulago, Usher Wilson Owere, the Chairman General NOTU said that NSSF issues were moving well until when the President appointed Amongi to head the Gender Ministry and she has messed up everything at the Fund.

Owere has requested the President to institute a select committee to investigate the minister’s scandals in relation to NSSF matters, terminate her services and asked Parliament to table a censure motion against her to save the workers’ money.

Last week, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja wrote to Gender and Labour minister Betty Amongi, the appointing authority, directing that NSSF boss Byarugaba be re-appointed for another five years as the Managing Director of the Fund following his expiration of his tenure in November 1, 2022.
