Buganda Road Court has set another date of December 14, 2022 for hearing a case in which nine University students are accused of holding unlawful demonstration in support of a resolution by the European Union Parliament to delay the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

Appearing before the Grade One Magistrate Fedelis Otwoa for mention on Tuesday, the state prosecutor requested court for more time to complete the investigations against these students.

The lawyers for the accused led by Sam Wanda requested the court to give the state the last adjournment to complete the investigations because the file has been delayed without a justifiable reason.

The group was arrested on October 4th, 2022, at Kingdom Kampala building as they attempted to march to European Union offices located at Crested Towers in Kampala to deliver their petition and later arraigned before court and released on cash bail of 100,000shillings after three days in prison.

Recently the European Union came up with a resolution advising Uganda to delay the oil pipeline until the country addresses human rights abuses mainly surrounding the acquisition of land in the affected areas.

It is alleged that the students blocked major pathways in the exercise of their rights thereby inconveniencing members of the public.
