The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in conjunction with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Police has started implementing the President’s directive of evicting encroachers from the wetlands.

Recently, President Yoweri Museveni ordered wetland encroachers to vacate them before the government forcefully conducts evictions since encroachment has affected climate change.

They started with areas of Bulenga near Lubigi swamp where over 200 people have been evicted.

The KCCA Deputy Spokesperson William Lubuulwa told the media during the eviction process that floods in Kampala and other parts of the country are the results of encroachments in wetland.

He has warned all people who turned deaf ear on vacating the wetlands that they will soon be forcefully removed.

However, the wetland eviction victims at Bulenga have condemned NEMA and KCCA for forcing them out without a clear notice and a resettlement place for them.
