At least 364 jobs in Nakasongola are vacant as District councilors block the appointment of the District Service Commission.

Some of the vacant positions include District Production Officer, Natural Resources Officer, District Procurement Officer, Health workers, Teachers, and Parish Chiefs among others.

On Thursday Sam Kigula the LCV Chairperson of Nakasongola submitted four names to the District Council for nomination to serve as members of the Service Commission upon the expiry of the tenure of the former members. The new names included Aidah Nantongo, Edward Katuramu, Margaret Kaikara and Jasper Spemforce Nalubona all retired teachers.

However, the councilors refused to discuss the names and approve them on the grounds that the chairperson should table all five names that constitute the District Service Commission.

Ssejjemba, the District Male Workers Representative, told the Council that early this year the Public Service Commission issued a circular warning against piecemeal submission of names to them for approval and asked the chairman to present all members.

Ssejjemba added that they suspected that Kigula wanted to retain James Kigudde as chairperson yet the council already passed a resolution withdrawing his appointment and his tenure expired.

Nakasongola has spent two financial years without the District Service Commission as the Council and Executive bicker over the appointment of Kigudde as chairperson.

Earlier the councilors questioned the appointment of Kigudde as Chairperson yet he was already a member representing urban authorities.
