The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has asked parliament for more time to respond to the concerns raised by legislatures about the preparations the government is undertaking to deal with emergencies resulting from Kenya’s political and economic riots.

Kenya’s main opposition Raila Odinga announced weekly demonstrations on Mondays and Thursdays against William Ruto’s government for failing to address the current economic challenges in the country.

On Wednesday during a parliamentary plenary, the Nakaseke South Member of Parliament Paul Ssemakula Luttamaguzi raised a concern that the country may fall into an economic crisis of commodity prices mainly caused by a shortage of fuel due to riots in Kenya.

This made Speaker Among to issue a summon to the government to present a report on Thursday detailing the measures put in place for any emergency that may arise.

However, while communicating to parliament on Thursday, Speaker Among indicated to have been informed by the Prime Minister Nabbanja about her unpreparedness to appear before parliament but promised to deliver the report next week.

Furthermore, on the issue of providing seeds to MPs to distribute to their constituencies, the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has promised parliament to look for 4bn in the weeks’ time and provide it to the Ministry of Agriculture to enable procurement to commence.

As a follow-up, the MPs requested parliament to ask the government to revamp the distribution of seeds through legislatures as it was previously done via the National Agriculture Advisory Services -NAADs and MPs to their constituencies before the funds were channeled to Parish Development Model-PDM.
