President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appealed to pharmacists to carry out research and be more innovative so as to come up with new drugs that can fight various diseases in the country.
This was contained in a message delivered by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija on his behalf at the ongoing pharmacists’ annual meeting in Kampala.
He says Uganda should be the leading human drug manufacturer in Africa because it has all the plants that can be used in the production of various medicines.
He also wondered why pharmacists cannot work with herbalists to come up with proper medicine that can bring in more dollars for the country.
Through Kasaija, President Museveni has also pledged more contribution to the Pharmaceutical Sacco to enable them invest in research.
