Uganda and Burundi have signed a bilateral agreement to seal on a number of areas that have to be improved though a joint working relationship.

The bilateral agreement includes among others; Agriculture, Energy, sports, trade, health, transport, defense and security. Trade and infrastructure are at the center stage because they are the catalyst to development especially on the side of Burundi that is just rebuilding its self.

They also made mention of regional and international challenges as well as benefits that affect both countries, concentrating more on lifting of sanctions against Burundi by other foreign countries, all this is contained in a communiqué read before the two presidents Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda and Évariste Nda-yishi-miye at state house Entebbe this afternoon by the minister for foreign affairs Sam Kuteesa.

In his speech President Nda-yishi-miye hailed Uganda and president Museveni for parenting Burundi and securing it especially in 2015 when all friends deserted them at the time of amending the constitution during the late President Pierre Nkurunziza’s reign.

He said Burundi has a lot of minerals, tourism and trade that can be first tracked to support its growth and as they head to the helm of the East African Community chairmanship they need guidance and support from Uganda.

On his behalf President Museveni said Uganda is ready to offer expertise in mineral and oil studies to Burundi, improvement on road network connecting Uganda and Burundi as well as instituting a direct flight from Entebbe to Bujumbura and Gitega.
